Several times each month, members of the Auburn University of Montgomery Association of Nursing Students (AUMANS) volunteer with Women in Training, Inc. Their volunteer service is crucial to supporting WIT’s menstrual equity mission.
“The AUM students in the nursing association who volunteer with us are truly an answer to a prayer,” said Adeyela Albury Bennett, WIT Chief Executive Officer. “The need in our community for WITKITS of menstrual and hygiene items is huge. It takes a monumental effort to purchase the items, pack the bags and deliver them. It is only through the support from AUMANS that we can meet this need.”
AUMANS students help shop, pack WITKITS, and deliver them to serve girls and women at the following locations:
Aid to Inmate Mothers
Brantwood Children’s Home
Common Ground Montgomery
Goodwyn Middle School
New Beginnings Educational Center
Reality and Truth Ministries
Salvation Army of Montgomery
That’s My Child
“AUMANS is dedicated to helping our community become healthier and stronger,” said Mary Lormand, President of AUMANS. “This program allows us to influence the next generation of nurses through our Breakthrough to Nursing Initiative of the National Student Nursing Association. Women in Training, Inc. empowers women and helps women gain confidence and the ability to go into the world and become better people. We are truly lucky to help with this organization by making WITKITS and delivering them to multiple other service-oriented programs throughout Montgomery. A special thank you to the multiple AUMANS volunteers who have made a significant impact in our community.”
Other WIT volunteers distribute WITKITS to Bridges/TEARS Shelter for Runaway Girls in Tuskegee.
Since its founding in July 2019, WIT volunteers have distributed more than 12,000 WITKITS to girls and women in need across Alabama.
