Alabama Governor Kay Ivey signed House Bill 50, introduced by Representative Rolanda Hollis, into state law on April 14, 2022, making this only the seventh state to have a law to provide menstrual hygiene products to students at no cost. This is a great first step towards ending period poverty in one of the poorest states in the nation. Other states with laws to end period poverty are California, Illinois, New Hampshire, New York, Utah and Virginia. Please read a Montgomery Advertiser article about the bill signing here.
